God Knows

Gate-Wood-Garden-GG318bThe other day Nelson and I went to visit Jerene, a friend of ours who has not been feeling well. As a matter of fact, she recently had an episode of weakness while she and her husband were shopping and suddenly she started to go down. Immediately a young man rushed to her side and told her not to worry because he was trained in medical issues and he would remain with her until help arrived. She told him she didn’t know if he was a Christian or not, but that she was and believed God had sent him to help her.

Soon the paramedics arrived and as she was being placed into the ambulance for a trip to the hospital, the young man extracted his arm from her grip and rolled back his sleeve to reveal the following tattooed on his arm;

“For God so loved the world that he gave his One and Only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Jerene told us that day that people don’t realize just how comforting it is to be in a situation like that and have someone come alongside who knows…and can help.

That simple statement caused two words to echo through my mind…God Knows.

1 Samuel 2:3 says…”for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.”

So what is it God knows? He knows;

    • Our Heart (1 Kings 8:39) …”Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since you know their hearts (for you alone know every human heart)”.
    • Our Motives 1 Chronicles 28:9…”for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.”
    • How We Should Pray Romans 8:26…”In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us…”
    • What We Need Matthew 6:8…”for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
    • That We Belong to Him 2 Timothy 2:19…”God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his”.

There is a wonderful poem that was written by Minnie Louise Haskins in 1908 titled ‘God Knows’; the following is an excerpt.

“And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.” And he replied: “Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.” So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.

We don’t know all that life holds for us…but God knows…and that is enough for me…for in His knowing…and my trusting…I will surely find my way.

Anyways….I was just thinking…

One Response to “God Knows”

  1. Kathy says:

    I was listening to your message on this, God Knows, while driving to Robin’s yesterday…as well as two other sermons of Nelson’s and another of yours. This one and one that Nelson shared really got me thinking also. About….coming alongside with someone who knows….and about comfort….and our futures….and our roles as the church body to come along beside others and “what that looks like”…..and what God knows that I don’t…
    In fact, as I was driving I thought “Kathy, you need to write this down”, but alas, I was driving. I may even have my own “message” to share…lol.
    I KNOW He knows my heart…so much more than even I do. Another thing that got me thinking is that He Knows my motives. I hadn’t thought about that. Sometimes I wonder myself what are my motives? Why did I do or say that? Are my motives personal, selfish, or for Him? If I (and others) are honest, I must admit that probably sometimes my motives are not what they should be.
    Anyway…thanks for sharing….
